Surya is a coffee table book commissioned by the Central Command of the Indian Army, documenting the eight states that fall under the Command's area of operations. The photography was made over six months of travel across these states.
What made this commission interesting to me was the scale of it: eight states, each with its own landscape, communities, and conditions. My approach was to treat this as documentary work first. Landscapes, military installations, heritage sites, and the places where the army's presence sits alongside civilian life. I was looking for the human texture inside an institutional brief, the details that make a place feel specific rather than representative.
The book was produced for internal use and printed in a limited run. Most of the material remains confidential. What is shown here is a selection from that larger body of work.
