Mushahada is a body of photographs made across the qasbas of Awadh during field research in 2020, looking at the simplicity of everyday life and the architectural heritage of these small towns.
The qasbas carry long histories. Markets, mosques, old havelis, the texture of daily life in places where very little has changed. I went in wanting to observe rather than conclude anything. The camera was present and attentive, and I tried to let the places speak on their own terms.
This work takes 'Mushahada' seriously, which is an Urdu word for observation, for witnessing.
